Shipwreck (pilgrimage?)
When a ship wrecks against solid and unforgiving ground you do not try and pick the splinters out from against the soil, to sew back together a tattered mainsail, to clean the shattered vases and broken boxes out from where they have been swept out to sea. When a ship founders you find the survivors and leave the unlucky claimed by the water to their fate.
People are not shipwrecks, but sometimes I wish someone would treat me as such. It’s too easy to try and put back together the wreckage, piece together the hull that smashed, find every stray nail and bent piece of wood and glue them back together. But some ships aren’t worth saving. Sometimes it’s best to salute from the shore and watch the ruins sink.
