bridges (pilgrimage?)

"Bridges will always be a beacon for suicides, but that doesn't mean you stop building cities by rivers," he said.
"Rather a tasteless metaphor for the post-adolescent love affair of a messed-up girl," I replied sharply.
"Ah yes, but you understand the point. You will always be theatrical, romantic and a seeker of attention; you're dramatic, darling, and your relationships always are too. A few minor hiccups don't mean you should give up on ever leaving your house again."
"Glen, I'm bored with the constant drama."
"Bald-faced lie is a bad colour on you, darling. We both know you love the drama. It's the repercussions of your few well-played scenes that you dislike."
"This is more than a few minor hiccups."
"Oh, I know, but you think you single-handedly ruined four lives; and that, my dear, is simply false. You - with an ample amount of help from all three other parties, I might add - just threw a few roadblocks up because you were bored."
